Sauna and wellness-area This delightful house sits in large grounds between Gaucín and the village of Colmenar – ideal for large families and groups. A substantial property, “Cortijo de la Palomas” offers a high standard of accommodation for a very rewarding holiday. Well designed, spacious and elegant there is little that you would find wanting. The views are splendid with Gibraltar and the Rif Mountains of Morocco visible on a clear day.It is a 10 minute drive to the village of Colmenar, which offers a few bar/restaurants and shops. The larger village of Gaucín is 15 minutes by car and has more facilities, amongst which some excellent restaurants. There are many beautiful walks in the area and there is a large variety of outdoor activities on offer. It is 50 minutes driving to the coast and 60 minutes to Ronda, the largest and most famous of the white towns in the area.

Sauna and wellness-area A generously proportioned sitting room has a double height ceiling and French widows that open out onto the main terrace, facing the lawns and pool. There is comfortable, quality furniture, a large TV, CD and DVD players and a wood burning stove. There is also a smaller, snug sitting room with a couple of sofas, a fireplace and a TV. The dining room has a very weighty dining table with rattan chairs, seating ten people. The colour palate used in the interior is subtle and restful, reflecting the local lavender and warmth of the Andalucian sunshine.Adjacent to the dining room is the excellent kitchen with a five-ring gas hob, electric oven, dishwasher, two fridge/ freezers, microwave and a larder. There is a separate laundry room with a washing machine and tumble dryer. Downstairs there is a large basement with a wellness area, including a sauna and a small gym with a cross trainer and an exercise bike, and a walk-in shower.There are two upstairs bedrooms. One of these is a double room with a king-size bed and French doors opening up to a balcony, overlooking the pool area and the views beyond – a wonderful start to the day. The adjacent large bathroom has a bathtub, a Moorish-style tiled shower, double basins, toilet and bidet. The other bedroom on this floor has twin beds and an en-suite bathroom with a large walk-in rain shower, basin, toilet and bidet. From the bathroom, doors open up to a small private terrace.The other three bedrooms are in the south wing of the house, which can be reached via the vaulted colonnade. One of these rooms has a double bed and the other two have twin beds. They all have en-suite bathrooms with a shower, basin, toilet and bidet, and one of the twin rooms also has a bath tub. An optional sixth bedroom is available in a separate apartment. The apartment has its own sitting room / dining room, a small kitchen area, a bedroom with twin beds and an en-suite bathroom with a large walk-in shower. The garden is designed for pleasure and relaxation. The sense of space and freedom is impressive as one breathes in the environment so redolent of the Andalucian landscape. There is a large covered terrace with generously sized outdoor furniture as well as a wooden dining table for al fresco meals.The swimming pool measures 12 x 4 metres with a depth of 1.2 – 2.2 metres and Roman steps for easy access. On the lawn surrounding the swimming pool are sunbeds and parasols to enjoy the long summer days. An ancient oak tree to one side of the lawn also provides shade.The grounds are completely private with access through electric gates and a long driveway. At the front of the house, by the impressive facade, there is plenty of parking space.
